Dr. Robert Gustafson is now performing sentinel lymph node biopsies (SLNBs) at West River Health Services (WRHS). It is a procedure where the sentinel lymph node is identified, examined and removed to determine whether cancer cells are present, spread (metastasized) or to determine the stage of cancer. If cancer is diagnosed, the surgeon may remove additional lymph nodes, either during the same biopsy procedure or during a follow-up surgical procedure. SLNBs are scheduled on an outpatient basis or may require a short stay in the hospital.
Dr. Robert Gustafson recently joined WRHS Surgery Center. He is board-certified in general surgery and specializing in laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery.
