Foundation Raises over $18,000 For MRI Campaign With Adult Prom!

By Ted Uecker, WRHS Fund Development Officer

The Foundation at West River Health Services sponsored an amazing, first-ever in Hettinger (that we know of) “Spring Into Our MRI – Adult Prom” on April 10, at the Woodfire Grill. Nearly 220 tickets at $25/person were sold for this event, with over 125 styling adult “Promsters” attending. The Woodfire has not witnessed such stylish attire in quite a while, plus the place was decorated with lights, props and signage throughout.

The social began at 5:30 pm with appetizers, refreshments and a Silent Auction. At 7:30 pm sharp, nearly forty couples lined up for the “Grand March”. As their names were announced, they walked out onto the white cloud pathway toward the dance floor. Thank goodness nobody fell! Eventually the traditional tunnel was formed, with every couple making their way underneath, leading to a lively “Conga” dance thereafter. More dancing followed until 9:00 pm when the Silent Auction was concluded, with all of the sponsor’s names and winning buyer bids announced. A total of $2,630 was raised from the 18 silent auction items (including massages, jewelry, wine and picnic baskets, artwork, a fly-fishing excursion with WRHS outdoorsmen, a liquor mixing party with Sushi for six, a Cessna plane ride, and lunch for 4 women at Kathleen’s sideyard). The Live Auction followed with lively bidding on eight amazing auction items – from a Cub Cadet Mower to a UND Hockey Weekend Trip in Grand Forks to 100 pounds of Beef to an Indian Dinner for Six to amazing artwork and beautiful wooden tables and a quilt – there was something for everyone! The Live Auction generated $7,925!

Dancing continued thereafter to Riley with Uptown Sound’s awesome and powerful DJ Music Show. In addition, everyone had lots of fun with Janel Johnson’s photo booth and her portrait photography. Thanks to Riley and Janel for donating their musical and photography talents. In addition, National Mutual Benefit Hettinger Branch 81 provided matching funds of $2,500 to the MRI Project. Overall, it was a terrific night for the WRHS Foundation – raising $18,055 in their drive toward their $500,000 goal. In addition, more importantly, Hettinger area folk had a fun time dancing and giving – together. Thank you everyone.

Currently the Foundation has raised $396,000 in the last eight months, with $331,000 going toward the MRI Campaign. Thank you Hettinger area communities. We are so grateful for your continued and unending support.
