Top Critical Access Hospitals Announced for 2014

The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) recently announced their Top 20 Winners from the highest ranked (Top 20) among the Top 100 in America determined by iVantage Health Analytics. West River Regional Medical Center will receive this distinguish honor during an awards ceremony to be held during NRHA’s Critical Access Hospital Conference in October in Kansas City, Mo.

The determining factors for the Top 20 CAHs were based on eight indices of strength including competitive strength, competitive intensity, market size and growth, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost and charge and financial stability.

“Our focus has been quality care for the patient and it’s truly gratifying to be recognized nationally for our efforts and success in quality patient outcomes and efficiency,” said Jim Long, CEO.

In addition, 60 best practice designations were also given to facilities that have achieved success in one of three key areas of performance, based on iVantage’s tabulation:

• Quality index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank across the five categories

of Hospital Compare process of care measures.

• Patient perspective index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank on two

Hospital Compare HCAHPS measures (“overall rating” and “highly recommend”).

• Financial stability index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank on a set of

balance sheet and income statement financial ratios.

“NRHA is committed to ensuring our members have the best information to manage their hospitals,” said Brock Slabach, NRHA membership services vice president. “In this era of transparency and accountability, NRHA is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of these hospitals.”
