The Foundation at West River Health Services held their “Foundation Nation” Golf Scramble at the Hettinger Country Club on Sunday afternoon, July 19th. Though the original date for this tournament in late May was cancelled due to spring rains, a whopping 64 golfers hit the links for a 10-hole scramble with temperatures in the 80’s and a nice breeze to keep the mosquitos away on this July day! With all of the $2,420 in proceeds going toward the new MRI Scanner and MRI Building Addition to the hospital at WRHS in Hettinger, it truly was a successful event for our area communities.
Twelve, 5-6 person teams, battled it out for the blue cup (a birdbath that kind of resembled the British Open trophy!). Winning the cup at -9 under par was “Team Shane and 4 Nones”, comprised of Shane Erickson, Dave Haar, Joanie Schmaltz, Christina and Dennis Maier. Three teams tied for 2nd at -8 under par: “Team Western Horizons” -- Mark Prischmann, Patrick, Josh, and Chris from Bismarck, Greg Jacobson and Suzie Chow; “Team Orange Door” – Rob/Ty Warbis, Jay/Sage Ohm, Larry/Suzanne Doerr; and “Team Mon-Dak” – Ryan/Jarad Jacobson, Kali Christensen and Mr./Mrs. Christensen. In 5th place at -7 under par was “Team Long & Straight” – Jen/Jay Fordahl, Alan Timm, Steve Nelson and Myra. All of the top five teams received “Foundation Nation Rocks” hats, shirts, beach towels, etc. Four youth participated, with each receiving toys or golfing attire.
Hole prizes during the scramble were won by the following individuals: Closest to the Pin on #3 – Aaron Koenig, 7’8”; Closest 2nd Shot on #2 – Jen Fordahl, 17”; Closest to the Pin on #8, John Hollingsworth, 12’1”; Closest 2nd Shot on #5 – Jim Christensen, 27”; Closest 2nd Shot on #7 – Dirk Mack, 21”; Longest Putt on #1 – Tyler Dick, 22’2”; Longest Ladies Drive – Jen Fordahl; and Longest Men’s Drive – Shane Erickson. All of the hole contest winners received a variety of prizes.
Special thank you to Kennedy’s Fresh Foods for catering the roast beef dinner; Suzie and Gregg at the Woodfire Grill for supplying egg rolls and enchiladas; and Shane Erickson, Alan and David Timm for bringing the meatballs and chips. Thanks as well to the Hettinger Park Board for waving the green fees so all funds went toward the MRI Campaign; the Hettinger Country Club and its members for hosting us and providing extra motorized golf carts for the golfers.
