Historically, the West River Health Services Foundation and Auxiliary has offered academic scholarships (Stippich, Feist, Steinmetz, Foundation and Auxiliary Scholarships) to promising high school seniors pursuing a healthcare degree at the college level. We still do. But recently we have also expanded our Scholarship Program to include separate academic scholarship funds specifically for Juniors/Seniors enrolled in a college healthcare program. The main reason being that typically college students will change their major field of study five to seven times early in their college career. Plus, students have usually selected their career field of study by their junior year of college.
Therefore, this year, the Foundation at West River Health Services is offering a total sum of $5,000 for one or more Junior’s/Senior’s in College, who are from our service area and enrolled in a college healthcare program. Application forms can be found at https://www.wrhs.com/giving.html or contact Ted Uecker at the WRHS Foundation office at 701-567-6187 or fdo@wrhs.com. Completed scholarship applications for our College Upperclassmen are due no later than November 1.
In addition, the WRHS Foundation has also started an Employee Academic Scholarship Program. Any and all employees at West River Health Services or Western Horizons Living Centers are eligible. There is a total sum of $6,000 available this year for selected employee(s) who complete the application by August 1.
The future of our rural healthcare depends greatly on our ability to educate our local citizens and hopefully, employ them afterwards. After all, there is a much greater chance for local area students to return to our area and work here, as they have experienced our rural communities.
