“Vaccines are not just for kids. Approximately 40,000 to 50,000 adults in the U.S. die from vaccine-preventable infectious diseases or their complications each year,” According to the American Lung Association.
“Immunization is one of the most successful and cost-effective health interventions, preventing millions of deaths every year. From infants to seniors, immunization protects against diseases such as diphtheria, measles, pertussis (whooping cough), pneumonia, polio, rotavirus, rubella and tetanus. The benefits of immunization are increasingly being extended to adolescents and adults, providing protection against life-threatening diseases such as influenza, meningitis, and cancers (cervical and liver cancers,)” states Center for Diseases Control and Prevention.
Each week in August West River Health Services will post educational information on the website and West River Health Services Facebook page.
During National Immunization Awareness Month, make sure you are up to date on your vaccinations.
