West River Health Services recognizes and supports diabetes self-management education as an essential part of providing quality care to the people that we serve.

We use a multidisciplinary team approach to assist people with diabetes since 1983 when we were still called "Community Memorial Hospital." Certified diabetes educators have staffed the program since 1995.

Our program is nationally recognized by the American Diabetes Association. To maintain this status, we must meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. The ADA endorses these standards to promote quality education for the people with diabetes.

  • Individual education sessions scheduled in the office and some by telehealth with our nurse educator.

Program Costs

Assessment and education costs vary according to your needs. You are billed for the amount of time you spend with the educator. Group class rates are less than the individual education.

Many insurance companies and Medicare Part B cover these costs after deductibles are met. Some companies require pre-authorization. Ask about diabetes self management training, not diabetes education.

If you have questions about your coverage, contact your insurance company prior to your appointment to determine your coverage.
